Moving off from the roadside is something you’ll do many times in your driving future. Also, on your driving test the examiner will ask you to pull up in a safe place, then move off again straight away several times throughout your test.
- Make sure you’ve done your Cockpit Drill and the car is switched on! (Yep, we’ve probably all got it wrong at some point, ha ha.)
- Select drive, then check all around the car from left to right (if you’re already on the left side of the road) including your right blind spot.
- When it’s safe to move off, indicate right if any people can see you and drive on.
- After you’ve moved off, check your mirrors again for any possible changes, and make sure your signal is now cancelled.
(If you’re moving off from the right hand side of the road, do your checks from right to left, and signal left when it’s safe to move off.)
